An individual in Talaimannar who had in possession of assets amounting to Rs. 90 million suspected to have earned through illegal means was arrested by Illegal Assets Investigation Division and Talaimannar Police on Thursday (02). He is a fisherman.
The assets including a luxury motorcar valued at more than Rs.10 million, two houses and trade stalls in Talaimannar and Sinnakadai area all valved more than Rs. 80 million were seized under the provisions of Money Laundering Act No 05 of 2006 amended by Act No.40 of 2011.
The police had carried out the raid during the ongoing investigations of illegal assets earned by individuals in the North.
Police said the 42-year-old suspect would be produced in court.
