Expect heavy rainfall, strong winds and lightning: Met. Dept

The showery condition over the south-western part of the country, is expected to be enhanced due to the active South-west monsoon , The Department of Meteorology said yesterday. 

Showers or thundershowers exceeding 109 mm are expected to  occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Northwestern provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the Eastern and Uva provinces in the evening or  during the night. 


 The general public was requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. 


Fairly strong winds up to 50 kmph are   expected in the western slope of central hills, Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces and in Hambantota and Trincomalee districts
