Woman accused of drugging husband’s tea to meet up with paramour

A woman who allegedly spiked her husband’s tea with sleeping tablets, suspected of planning to spend the night with her paramour, was placed in custody after her husband fell seriously ill and was hospitalized.  
The suspect woman was produced before Hatton District Judge and Magistrate H. M.Seriddeen and remanded till May 15.  
The suspect woman (26) and her husband (32) were residents of Maskeliya Divisional Hospital quarters and hospital employees.  

However her husband had been under treatment for epilepsy.  
The victim had been admitted to Maskeliya Divisional Hospital on April 13 and transferred to Dikoya base hospital the following day.  
However, during investigations the victim’s father stated that the suspect woman had introduced sleeping tablets to a cup of tea served to his son and called her paramour who was a hospital employee to join her. He told police that the suspect woman admitted it in his presence and that of her parents.
Police said the blood samples of the victim were referred to the Govt. Analyst through JMO Dickoya base hospital for examination and report.  
A police team under Sergeant 2815 Chandrasena is conducting further investigations on the instructions of OIC Maskeliya Police S. A. Sarath Pushpakumara.
