Damaging Mirror Wall, woman jailed for 2 yrs

A 23-year-old woman who was charged with causing damage to the Mirror Wall at Sigiriya was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by Dambulla Magistrate Sanjeewa Ramyakumara today.

The woman, a resident of Batticaloa, had visited Sigiriya along with some friends and scribbled her name on the Mirror Wall using a hairpin.

Police said Archaeological Department officials had apprehended her as she was writing her name (Udaya), in English, on the wall.

They had handed her over to the Sigiriya Police,
