35 still hospitalised after Diyatalawa bus crash



Colombo, June 27 (Daily Mirror) - Thirty-five people remain hospitalised following the road accident near the Diyatalawa railway crossing on Saturday morning, police said.

According to police, 42 people were admitted to the Diyatalawa Base Hospital after the accident, while seven have since received treatment and been discharged.

The accident involved a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus travelling from Colombo to Badulla.

Police said the bus reportedly suffered a brake failure before plunging about 20 feet onto a nearby railway track.

The bus driver was also injured and admitted to hospital. Police said a statement will be recorded from him once his condition permits.
