A tense situation has arisen at the working committee meeting of the UNP which is currently underway at the Sirikotha. Sources told Daily Mirror online that heated arguments between the reformists and Ranil factions have erupted.

Earlier the proposed Sathyagraha was to be held at the party headquarters at Sirikotha but was abandoned due to an injunction ordered by the Gangodawila magistrate. The roads around Pitakotte were also closed citing construction. The Sathyagraha was then shifted to Viharamaha Devi Park where all reformist leaders spoke to those present.

MP's Dayasiri Jayasekara, Budhdhika Pathirana, Ranjith Maddumabandara and Sajith Premadasa alleged that the UNP leader was on a contract by the government as there was no other way that the roads were to be "suddenly under construction".The crowd gathered at the Opposition Leader's house are seen shouting slogans demanding the immediate resignation of UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.

According to Premadasa, Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya will also join the protestors after the conclusion of the working committee meeting. (Fazal Mohomed)
