RAMANATHAPURAM: The members of Hindu Makkal Katchi-Tamil Nadu have urged the government to hoist the National Flag at Katchativu during Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations.

Power Nagendran, state secretary, HMK stated in a press note that Katchativu belongs to India and was ceded to Sri Lanka when Indira Gandhi was Prime Minister and M/ Karunanidhi was Chief Minister of the state.

He said a case was pending in court and Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa had passed a resolution in the Assembly to retrieve Katchativu.

Lanka’s treatment of Indian fishermen was against the Indo-Sri Lankan accord. Nagendran later submitted a petition to the Collector. (Source: Express News Service)
