Mano to run for Mayor?

Democratic Peoples Front leader Mano Ganeshan said today that he is giving serious consideration to running as the Mayoral candidate for the Colombo Municipal Council at the forthcoming round of elections. Speaking to Daily Mirror Ganeshan stated that “we had a meeting of the members of the Politburo yesterday and there was an overwhelming request by members of the Politburo for me to run for the post of Mayor. There were decisions taken yesterday but the final decision will be announced on Tuesday”

Commenting on speculation that the TNA would be a part of his alliance Ganeshan said “ we believe that the TNA would joing hands with us, our party supported them in the last round of elections held in the North and I personally went there and campaigned for them” The Nawa Sama Samaja Party led by Dr. Wickremabahu Karunarathne will also be a part of the alliance. He went on to say “ we are giving serious thought to contesting the Moratuwa, Kolonnawa and Negombo local council elections but we haven’t taken a firm decision on that yet, our main focus right now is the Colombo and Dehiwala Mount Lavinia municipal council” He said.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror TNA parliamentarian Suresh Premachandran said that “ we have made no firm decision yet, we will discuss within our party and with our friends and come to a firm decision within this week”. (FM)
