LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday once again issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the three accused of the attack on Sri Lanka cricket team in March 2009 and directed the police to produce them before court on February 27.

The bench had ordered the capital city police officer (CCPO) to arrest Muhammad Ashfaq, Imanullah and Ubaid-ur-Rehman and produce them in court but none of them were produced on Wednesday.

The court had summoned all six accused persons, but only three of them, Mohsin Rashid, Javed Anwar and Abdullah appeared. The division bench comprising Justice Mazhar Iqbal Sidho and Justice Kazim Raza Shamsi was hearing the Punjab government’s petition seeking cancellation of bail earlier granted to six accused of the attack on the Sri Lankan team by the anti-terrorist courts.

As the bench of the LHC resumed hearing, Model Town investigation superintendent of police (SP) Nasir Mukhtar Rajpoot appeared before court and stated that the accused had not been arrested so far.

The SP informed court that the families of the three accused had changed residences, which was causing problems to police in locating and arresting them. He said earlier the police had raided the houses of the accused but their family members had failed to give any clue to the whereabouts of the accused.

However, the bench issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Ashfaq, Imanullah and Ubaid-ur-Rehman and directed once again the Lahore Police, including Model Town investigation SP, to produce the three accused till February 27 after arresting them.

During the course of arguments, Additional Prosecutor General Abdul Samad said all six accused were identified during the identification parade and that they had confessed to their crime during the investigation. (Source: The News)
