Lanka Newspaper MD arrested

The crisis within the JVP took another turn when the Managing Director of Lanka Newspaper of the JVP Venura Herath was arrested a short while ago for allegedly assaulting a person over a robbery.

He was taken into custody along with another person this evening by the Mirihana police. Police said that in the morning the MD had lodged a complaint that cash worth around Rs.900,000 had gone missing from the hostel in Madiwela where the staff of the newspaper were residing.

According to police they had also received a message on 119 after the MD’s complaint that one of the men living in the hostel is seriously injured after being assaulted. (Supun Dias)
