Colombo, July 02 (Daily Mirror) - Deputy Minister of Environment Anton Jayakody has reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to implementing the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development during his address at the Seventh Global Conference on Climate and SDG Synergies held in Bangkok on 29–30 June 2026.
Speaking at the high-level segment titled “Recommitting to the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda: Regaining Peace, Solidarity, Sustainability and Prosperity,” the Deputy Minister emphasized Sri Lanka’s integrated policy approach to climate action and sustainable development.
He outlined national priorities under Sri Lanka’s updated Nationally Determined Contribution, including renewable energy expansion, sustainable transport systems, circular economy development, ecosystem restoration and climate resilience. He also called for increased climate finance, technology transfer and capacity-building support for developing countries.
