A jay walker who crossed the road away from a pedestrian crossing was fined Rs.100 by the Colombo Traffic Court Magistrate today.
The jay walker Mohamed Ansar Mohamed Musthafa was produced before the Colombo Traffic Court Magistrate Jeyaram Trotsky by the Metropolitan Traffic Police and submitted that the accused was arrested while going across the road without using the pedestrian crossing.
The police said they are conducting classes for those who violate the pedestrian crossing law to educate them on the road rules. Yet the accused when asked to come for the classes on Sunday had ignored it and did not attend the class.
The police said it is an offence to cross the road within 50 metres from a pedestrian crossing without using it. The Magistrate fined the accused Rs.100 and warned him to abide by the road rules. (T. Farook Thajudeen)
