Five injured in melee

Three people were injured when an armed gang attacked them at Demanhandiya in Negombo and two persons of the gang were injured from police fire during a confrontation later, police said.

They said the gang had attacked two women and a man with swords in a house in Demanhandiya last night on a personal dispute.

Police had rushed to the location and the gang had started attacking police officers. The police had fired at the gang in response, Police said.

The injured had been admitted to the Negombo Hospital and one person of the gang was arrested. (Darshana Sanjeewa)
