Action against Met. officials who failed to issue warnings

Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera vowed in Parliament today to take action with the officials concerned at the Meteorological Department if they were found guilty of failing to issue warnings to people on the gusty winds and rough seas that wreaked havoc in the south.

The Minister said that he learnt about such failures on the part of the department through media reports. He said that he has appointed a committee to submit a report to him, in this regard. (Kelum Bandara and Yohan Perera)
