Colombo, June 27 (Daily Mirror) - A Senior Assistant Secretary attached to the Parliamentary and Cabinet Division of the Presidential Secretariat was arrested for allegedly forging a passport under another individual's name to assist an organized criminal in fleeing the country.
The arrest was made by the Homicide and Organized Crime Investigation Division of the Central Crime Investigation Bureau.
The suspect, a 41-year-old resident of Kandy, reportedly committed the offense during his previous tenure as the Deputy Controller of the Foreign Missions Division at the Department of Immigration and Emigration. Ongoing investigations revealed that he abused his position to facilitate the fraudulent documentation.
The high-profile arrest was executed under the direct supervision of Senior DIG (Crimes, Traffic, Child & Woman Abuse Prevention) Ranmal Kodithuwakku, DIG of the Central Crime Investigation Bureau Division Chandana Kodithuwakku, and Director of the Central Crime Investigation Bureau Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kamal Ariyawansa.
The Central Crime Investigation Bureau is conducting further investigations into the incident.
