Colombo, May 09 (Daily Mirror) - The Department of Meteorology has issued an ‘Amber’ advisory for heavy rainfall in several parts of the country, warning that showers exceeding 100 mm are likely in some areas.

The advisory, issued at noon today (09), will remain in effect until 8.30 a.m. tomorrow (10).

The Met Department said the prevailing weather conditions are being caused by a low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka.

Accordingly, heavy rainfall above 100 mm is expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, North-Central and Northern provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara and Kurunegala districts.

The public has been urged to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by heavy rain, strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
