Veteran Singer Anjaleen Gunathilaka passes away

Veteran Singer Anjaleen Gunathilaka passed away a short while ago at the age of 79, President Keerthi Pasquel of the Sri Lanka Singers Association (SLASA) announced.

Mrs. Gunathilaka passed away while receiving treatment at the National Hospital in Colombo. Her remains will lie at her residence located at Pagoda Road, Nugegoda - final rites are not yet scheduled.

She was regarded as an outstanding singer and sang along with many renowned and veteran singers like the late H. R. Jothipala, Milton Mallawarachchi and Gratien Ananda. 

Her most famous songs sung with the late H. R. Jothipala included Miyuru Pem Madirawe, Adare Hithenawa Dakkama, Amara Pem Lathawe, Pata Podak Thilakala, Ira Sanda Wandala, Nupurudu Hangumaki, Sudu Pata Meedum.

Songs Kawada Ho Sasara Kathara Athara Magakadi, Ma Eda Dasin Sanaha, Mata Asai Hinahenna Mulu Jeewithe, Pemwathiyanne Pemwathiyanne and Punchi Putha Mage Iskole were her own pieces of work.  (Sheain Fernandopulle)
