Suspension of surgeries at Peradeniya Hospital: Indian Minister Jaishankar ready to intervene

Referring to the suspension of scheduled surgeries at Peradeniya Teaching Hospital due to shortage of medicines, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said he has informed Indian High Commissioner Baglay to contact and discuss how India can help.

"Disturbed to see this news. Am asking High Commissioner Baglay to contact and discuss how India can help," he responded to a tweet.

All scheduled surgeries at Peradeniya Teaching Hospital have been suspended due to a shortage of drugs and consumable items.

Hospital Director Dr. H.M.Arjuna Thilakarathna told Daily Mirror that the suspension was carried out from yesterday (28) in order to save essential medical items needed for emergency and life saving surgeries.

Meanwhile, Indian High Commission said that they contacted Prof. Lamawansa, VC and the Dean of Medical Faculty of Peradeniya University and requested to know their requirements for medicines to continue regular and scheduled surgeries.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
