Speaker’s fuel allowance to be reduced

Colombo, July 07 (Daily Mirror)- It has been decided to reduce the fuel allowance granted to Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne to 900 liters and to make it in line with the fuel allowance given to a cabinet minister, Parliament Secretary General’s office said yesterday.

A statement from the Secretary General’s office said the decision was made by the House keeping committee following request made by speaker himself.

The two vehicles issued to speaker by the President’s Secretary are being used by the Speaker in line with circulars PAS/SASA/00/1/4/12 which has been issued on January 21 2025.

Total staff of speaker is said to be 8 as per the statement while the personal secretary, coordinating secretary, media secretary as per the government procedures.

Food expenses for the Speaker’s private secretary is being reduced from his salary as it is with other staff members in Parliament.

The statement also said Speaker has not used his official residence for any personal use while all meetings are being held in his office at the parliamentary complex. The rent for the residence is being reduced from Speaker’s salary.
