Some AG’s Dept. officers passing confidential information to outsiders: Govt. MP

Some officers attached to the Attorney General’s Department are engaged in passing confidential information to outsiders and influencing court cases, a government MP told Parliament today.

Government MP Madura Withanage said some lay officers other than the lawyers are engaged in these acts.

“There is a case where a certain officer had provided confidential information to a foreign party,” the MP said.

Also he alleged that publishing pictures of those who are arrested in social media has also become an issue. “Some police officers take the media with them when they go to arrest a suspect. Some police officers have got a ‘media fever’ and this has to be stopped,” he added.(Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
