Reckless drivers to face direct legal action during Poson

Colombo, June 28 (Daily Mirror) - Police officers have been instructed to take direct judicial action against reckless drivers instead of issuing on-the-spot fines, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Traffic Control and Road Safety Division said.

Speaking at a press conference held in Polonnaruwa yesterday (27), DIG W. P. J. Senadheera said strict action would be taken against motorists violating traffic laws during the Poson period.

He also warned that legal measures would be strictly enforced against motorcycles fitted with silencers that produce excessive noise.

Meanwhile, Police Media Spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police F. U. Wutler said around 10,000 police officers have been deployed islandwide to maintain security and traffic management duties during the Poson season.
