Soldier arrested for posing as a police officer to marry a girl

The Polonnaruwa Divisional Crime Branch arrested a suspect, who was pretending to be a police officer and promising to marry a girl from Manampitiya.

Police said the arrested suspect who is a 34 year old Army soldier, was arrested on Saturday at Seeppukulama in Polonnaruwa.

The suspect was found to be in possession of a uniform with the Chief Inspector's insignia, a photograph taken from the uniform and two counterfeit notes of Rs. 5,000.

The suspect is to be produced before the Polonnaruwa Magistrate Court. 

Police recorded statements from the girl involved in the incident and the Polonnaruwa Divisional Crime Branch is conducting further investigations.(DSB)
