Sri Lanka, Pakistan discuss stronger cooperation in maritime and aviation sectors



Colombo, July 03 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka and Pakistan have agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the maritime and aviation sectors during a high-level meeting held at the Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation.

The discussions took place between the Minister of Ports, Civil Aviation and Energy, Anura Karunathilaka, and a Pakistani delegation led by Pakistan's Defence Secretary, Lieutenant General (Retired) Muhammad Ali.

The two sides exchanged views on expanding their long-standing bilateral partnership, with particular emphasis on enhancing cooperation in the aviation sector. Discussions focused on improving air connectivity, increasing flight frequency between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, and exploring future opportunities for collaboration.

The delegations also explored avenues for sharing knowledge and expertise in the ports and maritime sector, particularly to improve operational efficiency. They further reviewed ongoing development initiatives aimed at strengthening Sri Lanka's role as a key regional transport and logistics hub.

During the meeting, the Pakistani delegation commended Sri Lanka's economic recovery and development progress following the recent Ditwah disaster.

Deputy Minister Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku, Ministry Secretary W. W. S. Mangala, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority Daminda Rambukwella, and several senior officials from both countries also attended the discussions.
