The SLPP is not prepared to respond to the media reports on the statement of the party General Secretary on Minister Udaya Gammanpila, Minister of Sports Namal Rajapakse said.

He told the media during an inspection of the site for the proposed investment zone in the Welipenna area and said the members in the party had the right to make any statement to the media pertaining to his capacity as the party Secretary. However, the matter should be discussed within the party and not through the media.

“ We are not prepared to comment on the General Secretary’s statement or any questions regarding Minister Udaya Gammanpila. The Government has taken steps to provide relief to the people and has allocated Rs.87 billion to pay the Rs.5000 allowance. A plan is being implemented to reduce the cost of living. However we must listen to the suggestions of the heads of government institutions when implementing plans to run those institutions. The proposal to increase the fuel prices was one such move. Though, any government will increase the prices of consumer goods, the governments are reluctantly compelled to take such decisions. Perhaps the decision to increase the fuel prices should not have been taken at this stage. The Government should, however, respond to the price fluctuation in the world market. “ The Minister further said. (Bandu Thambavita)
