SJB suspends Horana Organiser Charith Abeysinghe following bribery arrest

Colombo, June 26 (Daily Mirror) -The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has taken steps to suspend the party membership of its Horana Organiser, Charith Abeysinghe, following his arrest and subsequent remand over an alleged bribery incident.

In addition, the party has decided to suspend him from all positions and portfolios he held within the party, with immediate effect.

Issuing a special statement, SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara said that by the year 2023, Abeysinghe was neither operating as a member nor an organiser of the party. The General Secretary further said that Abeysinghe did not hold any official positions within the Samagi Jana Balawegaya during that time period.

Nevertheless, the General Secretary reiterated in the statement that the SJB at no point opposes the enforcement of the law or the execution of judicial processes against individuals implicated in corruption or any form of illegal activity.
