Parliament was suspended for five minutes after former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe requested the Speaker to do so to discuss the unruly behaviour and use of unparliamentary language of certain MPs in Parliament.

Mr. Wickremesinghe made the request after exchange of words between SLPP MP Tissa Kuttiarachchi and SJB MP Chaminda Wijesiri on providing security to MPs' residences.

The former Prime Minister said bad behaviour of certain MPs had created bad image of the parliamentarians.

"The whole country is watching us. Unless we can do this properly, we better suspend this session. We will take five minues to discuss this and meet again. We can't leave here if they behave in this manner" he said.

Having accepted the request, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeygunawardhane suspended the sessions for five minutes. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
