Over 550kg Kerala cannabis smuggled from India seized in Negombo

Five suspects have been arrested by the STF with 560 kilograms of Kerala cannabis which was smuggled from Rameswaran in India.

The STF said the suspects aged between 35 and 45 were arrested with Kerala cannabis worth over Rs. 72 million near the Mankuliya bridge in Negombo when it was smuggled in a trawler.

The raid was conducted by STF team led by Chief Inspector Marasinghe on information received by STF Gonahena Camp under the supervision of SSP Sylvester Wijesinghe and instructions of STF Commandant DIG Waruna Jayasundara.

It is reported this was the largest consignment of Kerala cannabis smuggled from India to Sri Lanka.

The cannabis and the suspects were handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigation.(DSB)
