Number of STF personnel transferred from Boossa Prison

At least 100 STF personnel attached to the security at the Boossa Prison have been transferred with immediate effect in connection with an attempt to smuggle two bottles of liquor into the prison premises.

It was reported a scuffle erupted in the Boossa Prison on 11 March when an STF officer assigned to prison duty was caught trying to smuggle liquor to inmates.

An argument had escalated into a scuffle over not being allowed to take bottles of liquor into the prison.

Prisons spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said that an investigation has been launched by both the Prisons Department and the STF.

A special investigation has been launched by an Assistant Superintendent of Police of the Special Task Force into the incident under the directions of STF Commandant.

In addition to these transfers, STF Commandant DIG Waruna Jayasundara said that disciplinary action will be taken against those involved in the incident.(DSB)
