The Government has sought the Attorney General's advice to make the vaccination card mandatory for the general public when they enter public places.
According to the statement issued by President's Media Division, the Presidential Task Force that convened yesterday decided to look into the possibilities of making vaccination card a must when entering public places including shops and restaurants.
However, health officials have stated that there are legal provisions under the Covid-19 related law to enforce it against those who decline to get the vaccine.
Therefore, the directive of the Attorney General has been sought for this.
The Government earlier said vaccination cards would be mandatory from September 15, 2021 for those who are over 30 years of age when visiting public places.
However, the move was not enforced as the government could not complete the vaccination drive as expected due to the delay in receiveing adequate vaccines.(Sheain Fernandopulle)
