Colombo, May 14 (Daily Mirror) - The Kotmale–Gampola B431 main road has been temporarily closed since the afternoon of May 14 following heavy rainfall in the Kotmale area, police said.
Kotmale Police OIC Inspector Indika Lalith stated that the decision was taken as a precautionary measure due to the risk of a further landslide in the Paragammana area, where a section of the road had previously collapsed.
The affected stretch connects Gampola and Kotmale and is considered vulnerable during periods of intense rainfall.
Authorities have urged motorists to avoid the route and use alternative roads until conditions improve, warning that continued rains could further destabilize the hillside and surrounding terrain.
Police also said that monitoring of the area will continue, and the road will be reopened once it is deemed safe for public use.
