Colombo, April 13 (Daily Mirror) - Heavy showers exceeding 200 mm are likely at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Puttalam, Galle and Matara districts, the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre warned in an advisory issued today (13).
The advisory, valid until 3.30 p.m., said the prevailing showery conditions are expected to continue further due to the low-pressure area in the vicinity of Sri Lanka.
Heavy rainfall of around 100 mm is also expected in the Northern and North-Central provinces and in the Trincomalee and Kurunegala districts.
The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by heavy rain, strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, rainfall recorded between 8.30 a.m. on May 12 and 6.30 a.m. today showed significant precipitation in several areas, with Kesbewa in Colombo recording the highest rainfall of 204 mm.
Other notable rainfall figures included Veyangoda (145.5 mm), Gilimale in Ratnapura (121 mm), Wathupitiwala in Gampaha (105.5 mm), Devitura Estate in Galle (102.5 mm), Bandaragama Government Farm in Kalutara (102.5 mm) and Horana (101.5 mm).
