Katunayaka, July 2 (Daily Mirror) - Five young students representing Sri Lanka at the 2025 World Junior Tourism Ambassador (WJTA) Competition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, returned to the country last night (July 1) with an impressive haul of 13 awards.
The international event, held from June 23 to 27, brought together 29 junior contestants from 16 countries, aimed at promoting global tourism through cultural exchange and creative talent. The competition was organised by World Double Event.
Among the standout performers was 8-year-old Angela Kalyanaputri Wimalasuriya, who clinched the Overall Winner title and Social Media Winner award in the Princess category.
Also representing Sri Lanka were 7-year-old Chamisha Senash Sudasinghe, 13-year-old Dulen Satdinu Fernando, 9-year-old Chenuka Udana Wijayabandara, and Kithulu Kathya Hadapangoda. Together, they secured 13 accolades for the country, including awards for Best Story, Best Traditional Costume, Best Costume, Rising Star and Best Talent.
The young ambassadors arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake at 9.50 p.m. aboard AirAsia flight AK-47. They were warmly welcomed by their proud parents and well-wishers at the arrival lounge.
