A politician cannot be appointed as the Governor of Central bank even if he/she resigns from parliamentary seat, SJB MP Eran Wickramaratne said today.
The parliamentarian said written laws prohibit such persons to be appointed as the Governor of Central Bank.
"Some think that a person could be appointed to the post if he/she resigns from the ministry and from Parliamentary seat. The truth is that former member of Parliament cannot be appointed to the post as there is a concept of "a cooling down period' prescribed in the law," Mr. Wickramaratne said.
"Besides the forensic audit conducted on financial transactions in which central back has been involved in during the time of former Governor Ajith Niward Cabraal had revealed that there have been conflicts if interest," he added.(Yohan Perera)
