Army Commander reviews UN Peacekeeping contingent



The 17th contingent of the Sri Lanka Force Protection Company, scheduled to deploy on a peacekeeping mission under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), accorded a ceremonial salute to the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo, at the parade ground of the Gemunu Watch on 04 July 2026.

The ceremonial parade marked the contingent's departure for its overseas mission, reaffirming the Sri Lanka Army's continued commitment to international peacekeeping operations under the United Nations.

Addressing the troops following the parade, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo underscored the importance of maintaining the highest standards of discipline and professionalism while serving under the UN flag. He urged the contingent to strictly adhere to United Nations regulations and uphold the reputation of both the Sri Lanka Army and the nation throughout their deployment.

The Army Commander also highlighted the value of international peacekeeping missions, noting that such deployments enhance the Army's professional experience while strengthening Sri Lanka's longstanding contribution to global peace and security.

Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, and family members of the departing contingent attended the ceremony to extend their best wishes to the peacekeepers before their departure for Lebanon.
