A section of the Telephone party is reportedly set to hold a series of demonstrations against the government. The main actors of this moveare said to be a group of party’s Diyawanna members who are more articulate in the council than others.
Meanwhile, some front-liners of the party have reportedly already informed the organizers of the proposed anti-government campaign that they will not participate in it. They have decided to keep away to register their protest against the party chief’s continued languid attitude towards the government, they say.
The dissidents have also pointed out that those who have taken the initiative to organize the demonstrations have failed to clearly cite the objective for the proposed course of action. These dissidents mainly from Ratnapura, Bandarawela, Galle and Gampaha have reportedly announced that they have decided to take to streets in their respective areas along with likeminded members of local bodies to air the grievances of the ordinary people instead of participating in the proposed demonstrations.
