The khaki suit department had recently finalized after much stock-taking a list of transfers for some of their Gazetted ones.
Shortly after this transfer list was formally issued by way of a circular letter, a certain politico hailing from a ‘pitiya’ in Central province and deep in court cases up to his neck, had obtained a copy of it and rushed to meet Number One who was staying in a mansion at a distant place at this time.
Handing the copy of the transfer list, he had told Number One: “Sir, if you carefully go through this list, you will understand the import of these transfers. These transfers have been clearly manipulated to suit a certain political party in view of the upcoming national polls. If these transfers are allowed to take effect, it will be a case of us buying trouble in advance!”
Number One had gone into action immediately and the circular letter carrying the transfer list had ended in a dust bin in a matter of few hours! The khaki chief fuming over the slight done to him is said to be busy preparing a new list of transfers, they say.
