A Zebra Crossing At Last -- Thank You, CMC

I wish to express my sincere appreciation to the Mayoress of the Colombo Municipal Council, Ms. Vraie Cally Balthazaar, Commissioner Mr. Palitha Nanayakkara, and the Traffic Division Engineer for responding positively to my request to install a zebra crossing linking the Kollupitiya Jumu’ah Mosque with the CMC Pumping Station.

My heartfelt thanks also go to the officers of the City Traffic Police, Pettah, and the Kollupitiya Police for granting the necessary approval to make this much-needed safety measure a reality.

This zebra crossing is more than just a few painted white lines—it is an investment in public safety. It enables pedestrians, including worshippers, schoolchildren, senior citizens, and other road users to cross the busy road with greater confidence and security.

In the absence of a designated crossing, pedestrians are often compelled to cross at random points, increasing the risk of accidents and endangering both motorists and pedestrians. This initiative demonstrates that simple, low-cost measures can make a significant difference in protecting lives and improving road discipline.

I once again extend my sincere gratitude to everyone involved for their prompt action and commitment to public safety. Your efforts are deeply appreciated and serve as an excellent example of responsive public service.
