A woman under arrest warrant for evading court was arrested by the Ratnapura police while she was functioning as a doctor. The Ratnapura Division Crime Investigation Unit had carried out the raid on a house in Ratnapura town on information from the public and arrested the suspect.
The quack had been practicing under the pretext of having obtained a medical degree from Sri Jayawardenapura University. She had been under arrest warrant in connection with a case in Mahara Magistrate’s Court against her.
During the raid the police had seized uniforms worn by doctors on duty, a stethoscope, and a memento issued presented by Sri Jayawardenepura University and several forged documents. A senior police official said they would make inquiries from the Ratnapura Teaching Hospital, Sri Lanka Medical Council and Sri Jayawardenepura University regarding the suspect.
