Shani Abeysekara’s appointment to probe Easter attack is against standard practice –Fmr Minister

In response to the appointment of Senior Superintendent of Police Shani Abeysekara to the committee investigating the Presidential Commission of Inquiry report on the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks, former MP Udaya Gammanpila said it is against the standard practice since his inefficiency and negligence of duty as the then Director –Criminal Investigations Department (CID) resulted in the inability to prevent the terrorist bombings.

Mr. Gammanpila told Daily Mirror that Mr. Abeysekara’s name had been implicated in this regard in several presidential commissions that investigated the Easter Sunday attacks. He said the intelligence authorities had passed on information to the CID at that time about the imminent attack, with all details such as places and time.

Therefore, he said no justice could be expected from a committee with Mr. Abeysekara playing a role.
