Pirith chanting ceremony to invoke blessings for disaster victims



A special Pirith chanting ceremony was held yesterday at the Gangaramaya Temple, Hunupitiya, Colombo, to invoke blessings for citizens affected by the recent national disasters, with the participation of several dignitaries. The ceremony was organised under the guidance of Venerable Kirinde Assaji Nayaka Thera, the Chief Incumbent of the Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple. 

The event was graced by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, Minister of Buddha Sasana Sunil Senevi, and other government officials. 

During the ceremony, various organisations and individual donors contributed a total of more than Rs. 130 million towards relief and reconstruction efforts in the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah. Notably, Deshamanya Ajita de Zoysa, donated Rs. 100 million from his personal funds, which was handed over to Prime Minister Amarasuriya. These funds were specifically allocated for the reconstruction of religious sites damaged or destroyed by the disaster.
