Indian passenger from Bangkok nabbed with Rs.53Mn worth Kush

Sri Lanka Customs making yet another crucial detection in its combat against drug trafficking throughout the island arrested an Indian national returning from Thailand with Cannabis variety ‘Kush’ worth over Rs.53 million yesterday.   

Officers attached to the Customs Narcotics Control Unit stationed at the Arrival Terminal of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) arrested the 22-year-old passenger, who had arrived from Bangkok aboard SriLankan Airlines flight UL 403.   

Upon inspection, Customs officers discovered 5, 333 grams (5.3 Kilos) of Kush Cannabis carefully concealed within food packets inside the passenger’s checked luggage.   

The seized narcotics have a street value of approximately Rs.53 million.   

Senior official from the Narcotics Control Unit told the Daily Mirror that further investigations are being carried out by them before the suspect was handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau for legal proceedings.
