Four schoolboys have died after a raft carrying a group of students capsized in a tank at Wanathawilluwa while they were reportedly plucking flowers yesterday, police said.
According to police, five students were travelling on the raft when it overturned, throwing all of them into the water.
One student was rescued at the scene and admitted to hospital, while the remaining four were rushed to the Wanathawilluwa Hospital.
The students, who were in critical condition, were subsequently transferred to the Puttalam Hospital for further treatment. However, four of them later succumbed to their injuries.
Police said the deceased were Grade 11 students from a school in the area.
Investigations into the incident are underway.
