Engine driver injured after Peacock hits the train

The driver of the Beliatta bound slow train from Matara was injured when a peacock was hit by the train at Bambarenda over the weekend.   

The peacock had hit the windscreen of the drivers cabin breaking through it and hitting the driver in his face. The peacock had died in the incident. The Driver of the train T.M.Jayasinghe said animals being run over by the train was common, but it was for the first time for the last 32 years of his service that a peacock being hit by a  train, had caused injuries to the driver.
