Detainees flee custody

A group of detainees under rehabilitation at Kandakadu Rehabilitation Centre in Polonnaruwa had fled custody in the early hours of last morning.   

Police said the four men were from Poddala and Akmeemana in Galle and Mullaitivu areas and between 29 and 34 years of age.   

OIC Welikanda Police L.P.J. Kumarasinghe said steps have been taken to convey the incident to all police stations and investigations have been initiated with the help of the Army to track down the four escapees.  

He said the circumstance that led to their escape was yet to be established.
