Health authorities have warned people not to expose themselves to the intense heat experienced in several areas in the country when they wait in queues at polling stations.
Senior Medical Officer of the North Central Province, Dr. Hema Weerakoon said the temperature in several areas in the country would be above the normal level and that exposure to the intense heat from 10 am to 3.00 pm should be avoided.
Dr. Mrs. Weerakoon requested the voters to wear headgear when waiting in the queue to vote and to drink water to prevent any possible danger from the heat wave, the seriousness of which depends on the health conditions of the individual. She further said it could perhaps be fatal.
