The conference, chaired by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, underscored the SLAF’s commitment to environmental sustainability, public health, and community development through collaboration with national and private sector stakeholders.
The conference focused on three major projects. The first, led by Air Commodore Vijira Senadeera, involves creating a model school that promotes sustainable practices, improved sanitation, and better educational facilities, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Office of Clean Sri Lanka.
The second project, headed by Air Commodore Suresh Jayasinghe, aims to enhance sanitary facilities in popular tourist areas, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) and LB Finance, to elevate cleanliness standards and support sustainable tourism.
The third initiative, led by Group Captain Chaminda Herath, addresses childhood malnutrition by creating a database and providing nutritional support, in partnership with the Ministry of Health’s Family Health Bureau.
The event saw the participation of a ten-member panel from key institutions, including the Ministry of Education, SLTDA, the Ministry of Defence, and LB Finance, whose contributions were vital in refining the proposals.
Air Commodore Sachindra Gunewardene coordinated the event, ensuring smooth discussions.
Emphasizing the importance of collaboration, innovation, and planning, Air Marshal Rajapaksa reaffirmed the SLAF’s dedication to tackling critical national issues and contributing to the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ drive beyond its traditional mandate.
