The daily life requirements of many elderly citizens in Sri Lanka is increasing without proper medical and mobility support.

Once again,  HelpAge Sri Lanka (HASL)has realised this situation and distributed wheelchairs and hearing aids worth around Rs. 500,000 to needy elders living in the areas of Ruhunu Rideegama, Uhana in Ampara, Hurigaswewa, Thalathuoya, Himbutana in Angoda, Matara, Nugegoda and Homagama. The distribution was made on April 30 2026.

The donations were made by donors and well-wishers who continuously support the organisation’s humanitarian work.

Among the beneficiaries,  Mrs. R.W. Kusuma de Silva, a mother,  expressed her heartfelt gratitude to HelpAge for donating a wheelchair through the organisation’s mobile medical services.

She also appealed to the general public to support HelpAge saying that every contribution brings comfort and dignity to elders in need.

HelpAge further stated that Sri Lanka’s ageing population is increasing and, since  its services for vulnerable elders are sustained entirely through donor contributions,  it is  appealing to the public support in this regard.
