As Sri Lanka navigates economic and social challenges, the role of collective responsibility and community-driven action has never been more critical.

In this landscape, the Rotary Club of Colombo stands as a quiet yet powerful force—working consistently, often behind the scenes, to uplift communities and create sustainable, long-term change

A Milestone Year of Leadership and Vision:

On 3 July 2026, the Club will mark a significant milestone with the installation of its 98th President, Rtn Azad Mansoor, at Cinnamon Life, Colombo

The theme for the upcoming Rotary year, “Creating a Lasting Impact,” reflects both continuity and renewed purpose—signaling a commitment to initiatives that are meaningful, measurable and enduring

Transforming Lives Through Healthcare:

Over nearly a century, the Club has contributed extensively to national development, particularly in healthcare.

One of its most impactful initiatives is the women’s cancer screening and early detection programme, through which over 100,000 women have been screened

This programme has played a vital role in:

  • Promoting early diagnosis
  • Raising awareness in underserved communities
  • Bridging gaps in access to preventive healthcare

Such efforts have helped save lives while reinforcing the importance of proactive health interventions

Empowering Education for Future Generations:

Education remains a cornerstone of the Club’s service Across rural Sri Lanka, initiatives have included:

  • Construction of classrooms
  • Establishment of computer laboratories
  • Implementation of English Language and subject-based learning programmes

These interventions go beyond infrastructure—focusing on improving long-term educational outcomes and equipping students with skills essential for a competitive future

Community Outreach and Humanitarian Support:

The Club’s impact extends into multiple areas of community welfare, including:

  • Vision care programmes, providing eye testing and reading glasses
  • Prosthetic limb distribution, restoring mobility and independence
  • Playground installations in primary schools through international Rotary partnerships

These initiatives collectively enhance the quality of life, particularly for vulnerable and underserved groups.

Through global grant initiatives, it has:

  • Trained English teachers to elevate teaching standards
  • Introduced smart classrooms in rural schools
  • Implemented water purification projects in villages and schools

Access to clean drinking water and modern educational tools remains a pressing need, and these projects directly address such challenges while aligning with global development standards

Looking Ahead: Scaling Impact Through Partnerships:

As the Club approaches its 100-year milestone, its vision is firmly centered on scalability, sustainability, and collaboration

There is a growing recognition that meaningful social impact requires:

  • Strong partnerships with the private sector
  • Engagement from professionals and volunteers
  • Collective investment of time, expertise and resources

A Call to Action:

At a time when social and economic disparities continue to widen, the work of the Rotary Club of Colombo serves as a powerful reminder: lasting change is built through consistency, collaboration, and commitment.

As the new Rotary year begins under the theme “Creating a Lasting Impact,” the message is clear—real transformation is not immediate, but the result of sustained effort and shared responsibility toward a more inclusive future.
