A community medical camp organised by the 2006 batch of Bandaranayake College Gampaha was successfully held on May 9 and 10 at Keenagolla Primary School as part of a social service initiative to mark 20 years since the group left school.

The two-day programme provided much-needed healthcare services to residents in remote surrounding villages where access to regular medical facilities remains limited. A team of medical professionals, including a specialist doctor from the 2006 batch, conducted the medical camp with the support of healthcare staff and volunteers.

Free medical consultations, examinations, medicines, blood tests, and laboratory reports were provided during the camp. Eye examinations conducted by an eye specialist were also carried out, following which nearly 300 pairs of spectacles were distributed among residents.

The programme received support from local hospital nursing officers and several state institutions, including the Sri Lanka Police, the Public Health Inspector’s Office, and the Ministry of Education.

The medical camp reportedly helped identify a number of previously undiagnosed chronic illnesses among villagers while also providing treatment and medical advice for existing conditions. Local residents and school communities in the area extended their support to ensure the success of the initiative.
