Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) Director General Dhammika Wijayasinghe yesterday announced that she would be stepping down from her role at the entity.

In a letter addressed to the tourism sector stakeholders, Wijayasinghe shared that October 5 was the last day of her tenure as DG of the SLTDA.

“We have gone through turbulent times within the past two and a half years and survived. The challenges brought us all together,” she said.

According to sources, Wijayasinghe is transferred to take up a new role under a different ministry.

Meanwhile, former SLTDA Chairperson Kimarli Fernando in a social media post commenting on the development said, “A corrupted system lost a competent and honest public servant from the tourism industry.”
“A dark day for Sri Lanka Tourism,” Fernando added.

It appears to me that the state and cabinet ministers not in talking terms. The rift between them not healthy as both have come for their personal agenda and benefits.

Notwithstanding tourists are coming for the nightlife in Colombo?? Casinos and the splendour of life in Lanka, which is an experience by itself - not found anywhere in the western world - High spending too! So says the State Minister, who is well versed in the ways of life as spelt out by the 'Bard of Stratford-On-Avon'!!?? Tourism at its highest 2022, notwithstanding negative accruals, resignation of Chairperson and CEO?? Hooray for SL and Colombo nightlife!!?? Forget, traditional venues - Sigiriya, A ‘Pura, Polonnaruwa, Kandy Nuwara-Eliya and Beeches?!!!?? All thanks to the 37th State Minister with trims and abundance!!

This is the correct thing to do. It is impossible to work with a state minister who is only interested in promoting cannabis.

Wasn't Kimarky the one involved in the CPC hedging deal, while she was working for Standard Chartered Bank.

She might have resigning due to the political pressure. Tourism ministry will appoint a corrupted person or a relative.

Sorry to say, but women are not capable enough to run tourism sector in a country like srilanka.

This one and previous one both do poor work. Narrow minded as did not understand nature of modern tourist to enjoy widely. Both think tourist mindset 1990 same as 2020. Better get younger dynamic person to promote for these times.
